Life begins after coffee…

Every morning, I look forward to coffee and 30 minutes of quiet time! I wake up earlier so I can have a couple minutes to myself each day. I also like to write down everything I am thankful for and anything that is going on inside my head. It feels good to see it pen-to-paper. Writing down your intentions for the day is a good idea too.

Ginger Turmeric coffee

How I Did It…

Turn on kettle (I got mine from Target here!)

Empty 1 packet of reishi mushroom black coffee into cup

Add 1 tsp. of ginger, turmeric, and a sprinkle of cinnamon

Add a dash of black pepper (read below why!)

Add 1 scoop of collagen (grass-fed and pasture-raised)

Add 1 tsp. - 1 tbs. of MCT oil

Add 1 dropper of liquid stevia

A good pour of almond milk

Finally, add hot water

Whisk, and top with cinnamon! ($5 frother from Amazon!)

3 Coffee Tips

  1. Purchase Ceylon cinnamon over regular cinnamon

  2. Always add black pepper when using turmeric

  3. Add 1 tsp. to 1 tbs. of MCT Oil and 1 scoop of collagen to add some healthy fat and protein

Everybody loves cinnamon…

But what most people do not know is that there are actually 2 types of cinnamon: Ceylon and Cassia. Cassia cinnamon contains a toxin that can be harmful when you eat too much of it. If you are a person that is always adding cinnamon to your food, try adding Ceylon cinnamon once in awhile too! I personally love the Ceylon cinnamon.

Who would think combining black pepper and turmeric would help increase its bioavailability?

The Piperine in black pepper and the Curcumin in turmeric is shown to improve health due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and disease-fighting qualities. Always sprinkle a little bit of black pepper with you turmeric!

As my Mom likes to say (a certified nutritionist and naturopathic doctor), the right combination of protein and fat will actually slow down the absorption rate of the caffeine in your cup…

It won’t tax your adrenals and leave you as jittery. 1 tbs. of mct oil and 1 scoop of grass-fed collagen in your coffee (it’s completely taste-less!) is also a great way to jumpstart your day.
