Being healthy is one thing, but buying and eating healthy food every day is another!

It can be a challenge going to the grocery store and not get overwhelmed by all the marketing and new cereal brands.

Who buys cereal now-a-days anyways?!

3 Tips before going to the grocery store

Tip #1: Always bring a list

The most important thing to do when walking into the store is to have a list!

There are a lot of different aisles and different foods and drinks.

If we don’t write what we need down, we most likely will forget or buy a bunch of things we don’t need!

Tip #2: Shop the perimeter of the store first

This where all the real food is! Our fruits, vegetables, nut milks, meat, poultry, eggs…

You will quickly find you don’t need to go into the other aisles as much!

Actually, the only reason I ever venture into the aisles are for my oils, almond butter, rice cakes, bone broths, frozen fruits and vegetables, and sometimes bread or chips (that’s it!)

The cereal aisle is a trap!

Tip #3: Don’t buy foods you won’t actually eat

“If you’re not going to eat something, don’t buy it!”

The one mistake I use to make all the time is that I would buy “healthy” foods and then never eat it! It was usually because someone told me to and I thought it was good and I would eat it one day. Well one day never came, and I still have some of those items sitting on my shelf at home! My takeaway is that if you’re not going to eat something, don’t buy it!

I personally love everything I get from Trader Joe’s (pictured below), but my sister does not!

Everyone is different. Find what works for you!

Remember: simplicity is key! Just eat real food!

The quality of your food matters!

In any diet, eating a mix of organic leafy greens and fruits and vegetables every day is key. We should always strive to eat the rainbow of fruits and vegetables and definitely switch it up.

Prioritizing fat (good-for-you oils like extra virgin olive oil and avocado) is optimal to increase satiety and improve brain function and skin!

Buying your meats and poultry pasture-raised, organic, grass-fed, and wild caught is also ideal to get the most nutrients from the source.

I love how the only ingredient in these burgers is ground grass-fed angus beef! So perfect! Thank you, Trader Joe’s!

I love creating salad plates every day for lunch or dinner with a variety of leafy greens and a rainbow of vegetables. My diet is 80% vegetables and 20% everything else. I thrive off leafy greens!
